  • Encourage online banking options for clients to be set up so that bills can be paid remotely if quarantines become more widespread.
  • If going to the home, call ahead and confirm that your client has no symptoms.

payee-services-excerpt

Betty had been married for 40 years and depended upon her husband to manage the    finances. When Betty’s husband became ill, she focused on his care, not thinking beyond day to day issues. Upon his death, Betty was overwhelmed with all of the financial and legal issues she had to resolve, including having only her own Social Security income to depend upon.

Catholic Social Services was able to assist Betty in setting up a monthly budget, identifying outstanding medical bills, helping her to determine what death benefits were available to her and learning how to pay property taxes on her home. Betty, at age 75, is now learning how to manage a budget and to make long term financial decisions.
